I have designed curricula and taught primary, secondary and university art at both public and independent schools (ages 4 -22+). I have taught a diverse group of students both in person and remotely, which includes marginalized and indigenous populations, refugees and international students, in the United States, Peru and the United Kingdom. My education and training have provided me with a solid base in world history, art history, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, photography, and 2D and 3D design.

My recent experience as an elementary school teacher has helped me to further understand how we develop artistically. I enjoy helping students embrace and trust their unique abilities, guiding them to create openly without judgment of their work, themselves and others. I have a passion for helping creatives of all ages keep the doors open to the innate design sensibilities we are born with as we grow in our artistic practice.

My STUDENTS’ WORK is below. The first gallery is University students, followed by younger students.

University Students’ Work:

Ages 4-7 Students’ Work:

Ages 5-6: “Winter Trees”, oil pastels and white tempura paint on black construction paper. They were taught ground lines and blending.

Ages 6-10: School-wide community art project on line, colour and design, inspired by Mexican Talavera tiles.

Ages 5-6: Exercise in mixing paint - creating a still life inspired by Matisse’s bouquets

Ages 6-7: Lessons on symmetry, first with butterflies, then reflections. Sharpie, oil pastels, collage paper and tempura paint.

Ages 6-10: School-wide community art project on winter holidays celebrated around the world inspired by Japanese Notan design collages.

Ages 8-12 Students’ Work:

Ages 8-9: Kusama inspired exploration in shape, color and pattern, as well as 2nd grade hot air balloons exploring the same themes.

Ages 10-11: Bauhaus, Paul Klee and Joseph Albers inspired color explorations

All 5 of my 6-8th grade students (ages 11-13) worked on this drawing of their town over the course of the day. The first class, an 8th grade class, constructed the composition. The rest of the classes changed and added to it. Crayon and marker were used.

Ages 11-13: Limited palette still life paintings
